STANDARD
combat expertise: With all his power, supernatural and otherwise, Chrollo has been in a fair number of fights and shows it. He goes for freestyle so that he can mix speed and precision, and his capacity to multitask and adapt quickly shows experience. intellect: His best weapon is his mind, as he has effectively ran the Phantom Troupe for years while remaining mostly unknown to the public. Chrollo is an effective strategist whose plans usually go as he wishes, who can plot to take one man's ability in a fight while making sure to defend against the other at the same time, who thinks ahead and manages to pull off deceptions that others might trip up in, like convincing the whole mafia he and his group had died. hand-to-hand: He is practiced in hand to hand combat, displaying his defensive skills in the fight against the Zoldycks by blocking and dodging their attacks - some at the last second to prevent openings from being exploited - and his offensive skills through the controlled blow on Neon as well as his usage of a simple pen to take out trained fighters without a fuss. nen: Chrollo is a highly skilled nen user. In summary, nen is the capacity to use one's life force or "aura" to do a range of things, from the basics of self defense and concealing one's presence to creating a unique supernatural power that is the expression of the person themselves. Nen has a variety of common techniques, principles, and limitations that all users start from and utilize in battle, but it is one's hatsu, their personalized power, that truly makes a nen user. Users fall under one of six categories - Chrollo is a Specialist, meaning he doesn't fall under the other five classifications. ADVANCED
•Chrollo must witness the ability with his own eyes. •He must ask about the ability and be answered. •The target's palm must touch the handprint on the cover of his book. •This must all be accomplished within an hour. Conjuring the book and turning to the page holding the ability, Chrollo can then use it so long as the book remains open to that page in his right hand. If one of his victims should die, their ability vanishes from his book and he can no longer utilize it. The Bandit's Secret possesses a wealth of abilities due to Chrollo's years of thievery. Some of its powers are listed below. Indoor Fish: The user can summon several skeletal fish that can survive only in a closed room. The fish feed on human flesh and will attack any enemies. Their victim feels no pain nor loses blood despite the injuries caused, and remains conscious even in the case of mortal injury. When the fish disappear, the effects of the wound will then manifest. Fun Fun Cloth: The power to summon a cloth, the size of which depends on the user's will. What the cloth covers shrinks until it fits within the palm of a hand. Opening the bag will cause the items inside to return to their normal size. Living creatures can undergo this transformation with no ill effects. Lovely Ghostwriter: A supernatural form of fortune telling. The user must receive a piece of paper from the one wanting their fortune containing their name, date of birth, and blood type. The user then goes into a trance, where a creature will appear and guide their pen into writing the fortune, which is revealed in poetry consisting of 4 to 5 verses, corresponding to weeks of the month - the initial verse is about events that have already occurred. The user cannot predict their own future, and does not know what they wrote unless it is read to them. Teleportation: The user can transport themselves or others from one place to another within reason. The user does not need to ask permission from those they transport to utilize this. Flowering Inferno: The user can control flame, and can fire bursts of explosive fire from their hands or feet. The bursts can be rapid and the individual fireballs small, or they can be slower but more powerful and charged. Deadweight's Kick: An enhancement to one's abilities, it imbues the user's legs with additional force, causing kicks to connect with the added force of 500 pounds behind one's initial strength. Ice Field's Breath: The user creates an icy area 20m in diameter around themselves. Those with ill intent who enter the area are slowly frozen by the ice from the outside in, while the user and those deemed allies are unharmed. Leaving the area unfreezes the victim, but upon return the victim will return to whatever level of being frozen they were at. The user can control ice in this state. Binding Thorns: This ability allows the user to manifest ghostly thorned vines in the area around them, capable of grasping, binding, and wounding opponents, as well as latching onto the wielder themselves for a variety of uses. Poison Heart: When activated, this power causes the user's blood to become cursed. Those who come into direct contact with it (touching with bare skin, ingesting, etc.) will have their own blood poisoned with a toxin that will deteriorate their heart entirely to the point of failure within fifteen minutes. The user is immune to poison in this state. This ability can be slowed or even entirely resisted by those with a high poison immunity. |

PERSONALITY
Calm, confident, and softly spoken by nature, Chrollo knows that he has but to speak and the respected allies he has gone though hell with, who chose him to take up the duty of leading them, will still their tongues to hear what he has to say. In that respect it's clear that Chrollo's version of leading relies on trust and loyalty than commanding the Phantom Troupe through fear and intimidation, a fact that no doubt is part of what keeps the varied members of the Troupe working together rather than tearing at each others' throats. "My orders are your priority," he tells them when they vote him as leader, "but I am not your priority." The statement says enough about how he intends to reside as the head of the group - he will create plans and give commands, but he does not require his fellows to place him above themselves if it isn't necessary. What matters to him more than anything is the survival of the spider, of the Troupe itself, and all of them should be prepared to die for it. It is why he can tell Kurapika that he has no value as a hostage - with the survival of the Troupe guaranteed, Chrollo has no fear of death. Indeed, Melody comments upon hearing his heartbeat that it sounds as though he is content to live alongside death as he does, a fact Chrollo all but confirms. Fitting with such an ominous fact, outside of the Troupe, Chrollo is truly cold and takes monstrous actions without remorse, such as the Troupe's near extinction of the Kurta clan for their valuable Scarlet Eyes, or his own personal swift murder of all the assassins the mafia hired while on his way to conduct an even greater bloodbath. There's a streak of sadism in him, shown in how when he had the time for it, Chrollo did not just simply kill one of them, he pinned him to the wall and set carnivorous fish on him in a form of bizarre torture that didn't kill him until the fish were dismissed. His attitude towards murder could be called merciless at best, inhuman at worst, and while all the Troupe members are soaked in blood, Chrollo is the one who casually authorizes deadly force to be used, smiling as he tells them that they can "go crazy". He manipulates without a thought, like his winning over of Neon Nostrade solely to steal her fortune telling powers. Doing everything to seem warm, kind, and genuinely curious, once he achieves his goal and Neon is safely tucked away in the hospital, he spares not a single other thought towards her but turns his mind towards the next goal. Another example is his goading of Kurapika - even though he is bound in chains and at his enemy's mercy, he prods and pries into Kurapika's mind until he can expose what he thinks is weakness, which he tucks away to use at a later date. This manipulation displays another fact about Chrollo, which is that he is extremely intelligent. Able to predict a decent portion of Kurapika's actions from scattered pieces of information alone, Chrollo develops plans to counteract the other's course of vengeance and shelter the entire Troupe, which would have succeeded if Hisoka had not interfered. Even under pressure, he remains capable of thinking coolly and keeping the upper hand, allowing him to pull out a surprise or two along the way. Against Zeno and Silva, he manages to avoid giving the latter any chance to break through his defense, despite having to keep an eye in all directions, and then revealing he hired Illumi to assassinate the very people who hired Zeno and Silva to kill Chrollo. Topping off the night by fooling the entire mafia into believing the Phantom Troupe was dead, it all winds up a victory for Chrollo due to his foresight and knowledge. Chrollo doesn't particularly lack a heart, despite his deeds. His heart is only highly selective in who and what it cares for. For all their theft and destruction, the Phantom Troupe is also known to take part in philanthropic efforts, which very well may be where the majority of the riches they steal go towards. All members, Chrollo included, come from Meteor City - a place that exists on no official records, but is practically a dumping ground for unwanted things, including people. While this harsh environment usually breeds an attitude of "every man for himself", Chrollo reached out and formed the Troupe, weaving everyone into an unusual group whose bonds would grow to be unshakable. All of them mean so much to him, as demonstrated by his reaction to Uvogin's death. Despite having a facade on for Neon, upon learning Uvo was dead, Chrollo weeps openly, before having to push down his emotions for the sake of the act. When he no longer needs to pretend, he carries out a "requiem" of revenge on all the mafiosi around with the rest of the Troupe, slaughtering all two thousand of them in his memory. For the member of the Troupe who liked to be wild and cause havoc, it was a truly fitting memorial. Whether it's because of his childhood spent in a junkyard that called itself a city or simply something that goes hand in hand with his thievery, Chrollo possesses an appreciation for beautiful things, enough that the other members of the Troupe notice it. Hisoka explains to Kurapika that before selling off the items he steals, Chrollo takes the time to admire them all for a while. On its own, it might simply be aesthetic value, but Chrollo has a degree of greed in him as well. Taking Neon's ability was in the big picture unnecessary seeing as her prediction could have served as enough to help Chrollo predict Kurapika's actions, yet his goal from the beginning was to steal her ability for his own. It's a quality that makes him a fine thief, but one day might become his undoing. QUOTES
"our goal is not to keep an individual alive, but the spider." --- "why, indeed? because they have nothing to do with us? no. on second thought, it isn't that simple. how to verbally express our motives...i'm not fond of it. but oddly enough...or perhaps it's not that odd. is that the key to understanding myself?" |
